Sandalwood has a warm, woody, and slightly sweet scent. The fragrance of sandalwood is complex and can be described as having notes of amber, vanilla, and musk and is often used in perfumes, incense, and aromatherapy products for its calming and grounding qualities. Sandalwood is considered a base note in perfumery, meaning that it has a long-lasting fragrance that can persist on the skin for several hours after application.
The origin of sandalwood is Southeast Asia and Australia. Besides perfumery, the wood has been used in traditional healing medicines and has valuable cultural significance.
In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Prince Rama embarks on a mission to rescue Princess Sita from the demon king Ravana. During his journey, he meets Jambavan, a wise and powerful jungle leopard who lives in a sandalwood forest. Jambavan mistakes Prince Rama for a thief and challenges him to a battle, but after realizing his true identity, he offers his assistance and together they defeat Ravana and rescue Princess Sita.
